Overview
Process heat solutions are engineered systems that deliver controlled thermal energy — as steam, hot oil, or flue gas — directly to an industrial process. They are used wherever a manufacturing process requires precise, reliable heat for cooking, drying, sterilising, dyeing, distilling, evaporating, or chemical reaction. ME Engineering designs, supplies, installs, and commissions process heating systems tailored to the temperature range, capacity, and safety requirements of each application. Our Process Heat Services Steam-Based Heating Systems
Steam is the most widely used process heat medium in Nepalese industry due to its high heat content, controllability, and safety. We design and install:
Shell-and-tube heat exchangers — transferring heat from steam to process fluid (water, juice, syrup, solvent) at pressures up to (confirm with owner) kg/cm² and temperatures up to (confirm with owner) °C Plate heat exchangers — compact units suited to hygienic food, beverage, and pharmaceutical duties Jacketed vessels and limpet coil systems — for batch heating of liquids in reactors, mixing vessels, and storage tanks Steam-to-air unit heaters — for space heating and drying tunnels
All steam heating equipment is sized to your process heat load (kW or kcal/hr), inlet steam pressure, and required outlet temperature. Thermal Oil (Hot Oil) Systems
Where process temperatures exceed 150 °C or where steam pressure would become impractical, thermal oil systems offer a safer and more energy-efficient alternative. Thermal oil heaters circulate a synthetic heat transfer fluid at temperatures up to (confirm with owner) °C at near-atmospheric pressure, eliminating the risks associated with high-pressure steam. We supply, install, and commission complete thermal oil systems including the heater, circulation pumps, expansion vessel, and distribution pipework. Direct Fired Process Heaters
For applications requiring very high temperatures or direct flame contact — such as certain chemical processes, bitumen heating, or fuel oil preheating — we supply and install direct fired tubular heaters and immersion burner systems running on diesel, furnace oil, or LPG. Waste Heat Recovery Units (WHRU)
Industrial furnaces, kilns, diesel generators, and boiler flue gases discharge large quantities of recoverable heat. We design and install waste heat recovery units — including economisers, recuperators, and heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) — that capture this energy and return it as hot water, steam, or preheated combustion air, directly reducing your fuel consumption and operating cost. Engineering Approach
Every process heat project begins with a heat load audit: we calculate the thermal duty (kW), required flow rates, temperature rise, and pressure drop before specifying equipment. This ensures the system delivers the required process temperature reliably without oversizing, which wastes capital and energy.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you determine the right process heating system for our plant?
We start with a heat load audit reviewing your process temperatures, flow rates, batch sizes, and operating hours. From this we calculate the thermal duty in kW and recommend the most suitable heat medium and equipment.
When would you recommend thermal oil over steam for process heating?
Thermal oil is generally preferred when process temperatures exceed 150–180 °C, where steam pressure would need to exceed 8–10 kg/cm². It is also preferred where a leak of steam or condensate would damage the product or create a safety hazard.
Can you recover waste heat from our existing diesel generators or furnaces?
Yes. We assess the flue gas temperature, flow rate, and available thermal energy, then design a suitable heat recovery unit. The recovered energy can offset boiler fuel consumption or supply low-temperature process heat directly.
Do your heat exchangers meet food-grade or pharmaceutical hygiene standards?
For food, beverage, and pharma applications we specify stainless steel plate heat exchangers with hygienic fittings and CIP (clean-in-place) compatibility. Specific standards can be confirmed at the design stage.
What fuels can your direct fired heaters run on?
We supply heaters configured for diesel, furnace oil (FO), and LPG — the fuels most commonly available in Nepal. Dual-fuel burner options are available on request.
